LYNCHBURG, Va. – Zeynep Avci, a wing from Turkey, has signed with the Liberty women's basketball program for the 2025-26 academic year.
Avci is the fourth incoming freshman set to join the defending CUSA champions for 2025-26, also including Emma Leon, Sierra Maxwell and Lynn Peters. They hail from four different nations, including Spain (Leon), Netherlands (Peters), Turkey (Avci) and the United States (Maxwell).
Zeynep Avci (G, 6-0, Ankara, Turkey)
Avci, who just turned 17 in April, graduated from TED Ankara College.
She played for Turkey's squad in the 2024 FIBA U16 Women's EuroBasket, helping her team earn a fourth-place finish. Avci averaged 4.6 ppg and 3.9 rpg during the event, including an eight-point, 11-rebound outing during a semifinal matchup with Romania.
"I chose Liberty University's women's basketball team because of its amazing coaching staff, who are not only experienced but also deeply supportive, and also the competitive atmosphere," stated Avci. "Also the campus offers great opportunities for a student-athlete."
What They're Saying About Zeynep Avci
"We are excited to add Zeynep to our Liberty family with the high expectations that her international experiences will have an immediate impact this upcoming season. She plays the wing and small forward position with the ability to be a very active rebounder. Her rebounding ability caught our eye and separated her from other recruits. Zeynep anticipates and understands the game well. She can score from all levels on the court and possesses the athleticism to be an exceptional defender."
