Torres Clocks Personal-Best 51.68 to Win WildCat Invitational 400 Hurdles

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Jacob Torres provided the performance of the day at the WildCat Invitational on Saturday, blazing to a men's 400 hurdles victory in a personal-best and CUSA-leading time of 51.68.
Men's Day 2 Recap
After posting a 53.80 for the 400 hurdles at the Virginia Challenge Friday evening, Torres ran more than two seconds faster during the encore on Saturday. He took down his previous best of 51.90 from 2023, when Torres was competing for Occidental, and grabbed the No. 8 spot on Liberty's all-time list.
Torres pulled teammate Willem Huizenga along to a new personal best as well (54.89), as the Flames finished 1-2 in the event.
Decathlete Hunter Bleam also enjoyed a successful day, heaving the shot put a season-best 41-8 for second place and throwing the discus 127-9 for third in that event.
Women's Day 2 Recap
The Lady Flames' distance squad closed out an incredible week of competition with five top-five showings on Saturday.
Anna Fletcher (personal-best 4:45.42) and Jessica Cox (personal-best 4:48.74) were the first two collegiate finishers in the women's 1,500, placing third and fourth overall.
Rebekah Simmons (season-best 2:19.25), Cox (2:23.68) and Fletcher (2:25.47) later produced a 2-4-5 finish in the women's 800.
Joelle Patton raced to a runner-up finish in the women's 100, clocking 12.62 into a headwind. Fellow sprinter Faith Sidwell's personal-best 1:00.08 was good for sixth in the women's 400.
Indiah Maroney matched her season-best high jump clearance of 5-3 to earn a second-place finish.
Competing unattached, Liberty assistant Makenzy Willis took home the women's triple jump title with a mark of 40-4.25.
