Mojica’s Season-Best 161-8 Discus Mark Headlines Saturday at Beach Invite

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Liberty's Sofia Mojica recorded a big season-best women's discus mark of 161-8 for 12th place at the Beach Invitational on Saturday.
Women's Day 2 Recap
Mojica's 161-8 effort, which came on her third and final attempt, netted a 12th-place finish among the field of 79 women's discus competitors. She continued a season-long trend of improvement, going from 140-11 at the season-opening Bob Davidson Team Challenge to 141-2 to 144-3 to 152-5 and finally to 161-8 on Saturday. Mojica is now just two inches away from her lifetime best of 161-10 from the 2023 Mexico U23 Championship.
Bethany Tate followed in 22nd place with a top discus throw of 149-3. The freshman later led the Lady Flames with a 14th-place women's shot put finish (47-2.25). Classmate Tabby DeJong threw within one centimeter of her personal best, stretching the tape to 45-6.25 for 21st place.
Men's Day 2 Recap
Two days after uncorking a personal-best 170-8 discus at the Pacific Coast Invitational, freshman Trevor Veenstra returned to Jack Rose Track. This time, he set a new personal best in the shot put (54-9.25) to finish 21st.
Veenstra went on to win his flight and finish 19th overall in the men's discus at 166-0, finishing one spot behind teammate Christian Hicks (166-9) in the final standings.
