Engle Scores Personal-Best 5,414 for 2nd in Duke Invite Heptathlon

DURHAM, N.C. – Liberty All-American Meredith Engle wrapped up an impressive heptathlon competition in second place with a personal-best 5,414 points, Friday at the Duke Invitational.
Engle shattered her previous best of 5,205 from the 2023 Bryan Clay Invitational to finish second overall, falling only to Arizona State alum Katie Eidem.
Engle now ranks No. 2 in program history behind Liberty Athletics Hall of Famer Danielle McNaney's record-setting 5,504-point effort at the 2005 Penn Relays.
Engle opened day two with her best-ever long jump within a heptathlon competition (18-2.5) and heaved the javelin a season-best 119-3. The Dillsburg, Pa., native went for it in the 800, leading the pack through the first lap in 1:05.49 before finishing in 2:21.61.
Patasha Bryan, who finished one spot ahead of Engle in the 800 in 2:19.08, came in eighth overall with 4,919 points. Paige Greenhagel closed out the Liberty trio in 12th place, totaling 4,529 points.
Neither Gabriel Willis nor Samuel O'Regan was able to finish all 10 events of the decathlon. The duo's top mark on Friday was a 13-9.25 pole vault clearance by O'Regan.
