
Flames Head to Arizona State for Three-Match Tournament

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Flames tennis team travels West for the Diablos College Invitational, a three-match event hosted by Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz. The Flames will play three matches beginning on Friday against No. 41 Arizona State. All matches will be held at the Kiwanis Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.
Liberty will be competing in the Diablos College Invitational for the third consecutive season. The Flames have collected a 2-4 record at the event. Liberty met Arizona State in the first round of the 8-team event in 2023 with the Flames falling 4-1.
The seven-team event (Pacific dropped out) consists of multiple top West Coast programs including No. 9 Arizona, No. 29 Boise State, No. 41 Arizona State, No. 49 Washington, No. 68 Utah State and UTSA.
In both previous years, the Flames have battled Michigan State and Boise State with the Flames topping Michigan State 4-1 on March 11, 2023. Boise State is returning to the tournament, setting up a possible third consecutive matchup.
Liberty is coming off a difficult three-match week against a trio of ranked opponents. The Flames fell 4-2 to Old Dominion on Feb. 18 (ranked No. 58 on Feb. 20), 5-2 against No. 64 Dartmouth (Feb. 21) and 5-2 to No. 39 Yale on Feb. 23.
