LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Lady Flames tennis team (3-5) fell to Michigan State (6-2) 7-0 at home on Sunday afternoon. Liberty fell in both of its matches this weekend, previously falling 4-1 to James Madison on Friday.
The Spartans took two of three doubles matches and earned two quick singles matches, losing just three games between the No. 6 and 4 singles matches. Michigan State clinched the match-winning point on court two as Ellie Blackford topped Liberty's Yoanna Radulova with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
In doubles, the Lady Flames pair of Celina Joseph and Yu-Yun Chen topped Michigan State's duo of Issey Purser and Oriana Parkins Godwin 6-2 on court three. The match was the first they played together and the first time Joseph has played with a new partner (1-1 with Sadie Daavettila).
The Spartans secured a first set win on all six singles matches with no Lady Flame earning more than four games. Liberty forced a third-set super tiebreaker on courts one and three following the match being clinched.
