GAINESVILLE, Fla. – A late second-round surge allowed the Flames to climb up the leaderboard and has Liberty in seventh place after day one of the 2025 Gator Invitational.
Three of Liberty's five starters birdied the par-5, No. 4 hole (578 yards), the Flames' 30th hole of the day. This jumpstarted a back nine that saw the team record eight of their 29 total birdies during the first day of the Florida-hosted tournament.
Following 36 holes around the Mark Bostick Golf Course (par 70, 6,701 yards), Liberty (284-280) shares seventh place with Furman (280-284). Both teams stand at 4-over par 563 and trail the event-leading Gators by 19 strokes.
No. 13 Florida leads the 14-team field with a 15-under par 545 (271-274). The Gators are two shots clear of No. 7 Oklahoma State, who sits in second place with a 13-under par 547 (277-270).

Pascal Gunther's ability to overcome a tough start to the day, helped the Flames climb up the leaderboard with a strong afternoon round. After opening the event with a 10-over par 80 during the morning flight, the sophomore rebounded with a 3-under par 67 during the afternoon that saw him card six birdies.
With the threat of inclement weather coming on Sunday, tee times have been moved up for the final round. The 14-team field will return to Florida's home course on Sunday at 7:20 a.m.
Liberty will once again tee off from the No. 10 hole (par 4, 418 yards) and will be paired with golfers from Furman and Jacksonville on Sunday.
