Liberty Falls 4-1 Against James Madison, Turchetto Earns Lone Point

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Maria Turchetto scored the lone point for Liberty in a 4-1 loss hosting in-state rival James Madison on Friday night. Turchetto secured her first singles match of the season with a 6-4, 6-4 final. Friday's match was the first of a pair this weekend as Liberty prepares to face Michigan State on Sunday morning.
James Madison opened the match with an early lead, gaining the doubles point with victories on courts three and one. The Dukes went on to win the first two singles matches against the Lady Flames in the No. 1 and 6 matches. JMU clinched the match-winning fourth point in the number five singles match as Mia Saveljic held on to top Anika Lemus 7-5, 6-4. Two matches went unfinished in the third set.
Turchetto, playing in the No. 4 singles match, defeated Sophie Williams after a slow start in the first set falling 4-2. Turchetto quickly made a comeback with seven unanswered games, holding her opponent to four games in each set.
