LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty Lady Flames tennis team (3-3) welcomes James Madison (0-7) on Friday and faces Michigan State (4-2) on Sunday at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. Friday's contest is set for 3 p.m. with Sunday's match scheduled for an 11 a.m. first serve. Both matches will be streamed via Playsight.
Liberty is seeking its longest winning streak of the season, coming off a pair of 6-1 triumphs over Navy (Feb. 1) and Radford (Feb. 8). Five different Lady Flames seek their third straight singles victory. Doubles play looks to continue to be a strength of the team with a 9-7 collective record, including a 4-1 mark on the No. 1 doubles court.
This weekend's matches will end a stretch of seven of eight home matches to open the season. Liberty is 3-2 at home to begin 2025 after owning a 9-0 mark in Lynchburg last season.
Despite an 0-7 record, JMU has faced tough competition this spring. The Dukes have matched up with six ACC programs, with three of those ranked at the time of the match. Liberty looks to improve on an 8-6 all-time record against the Dukes after topping JMU 4-0 last season (Feb. 4).
Liberty made history the last time it met Michigan State. In their first-ever matchup against the Spartans, the Lady Flames topped MSU 4-2 on the road on Feb. 3, 2023. The triumph was their first-ever win over a Big 10 program. The two will meet for just the second time on Sunday.
