Liberty's Clayton Shepler has been named a Conference USA Fall Spirit of Service Award winner, honoring his efforts off the gridiron and in the local community.
The CUSA Spirit of Service award honors student-athletes with significant community service endeavors, good academic standing and participation in their sport.
The CUSA Spirit of Service award is presented three times throughout the season, with today's honorees representing men's cross country, football, women's soccer and volleyball.
Shepler just completed his second season as a member of Liberty's football program. After redshirting in 2024, the wide receiver saw action in five games in 2025 as a member of the special teams unit. He was named the Flame of the Week during Week 10 this season.
During his first season with the Flames, the camp and outdoor adventure leadership major was named to the Conference USA Commissioner's Honor Roll. He also has been named to the Liberty University Dean's List.
Shepler has been an active member of Liberty's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and has participated in many community outreach programs.
The native of Roswell, Ga., participated in the Dollar Makes a Difference campaign, helping raise over $9,000 to purchase school supplies for local teachers and students. As a program, Liberty's football team raised $3,500 for this effort.
He also participated in the Trick or Treat so Others Can Eat effort where Liberty student-athletes collected 8,000 canned goods for the Lynchburg community. He helped encourage the football program to personally bring in over 1,500 items.
Shepler's busy fall semester off the field also included participation in programs like: Learn Like Liberty (reading to elementary school classrooms), Amazing Mile (supporting young runners at the Virginia 10 miler), Brookneal Elementary School Football Takeover (reading program) and Bass Elementary School Fall Festival (helping to run game stations and interaction with students).
