
Flames Host Princeton, James Madison Over Weekend

LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty men's tennis (2-1) looks to build on positive momentum from its first-ever ITA kickoff victory when it welcomes Princeton (4-1) on Saturday and James Madison (1-1) on Sunday. The opening tilt is set for 3 p.m. with Sunday's match holding a 2 p.m. first serve at the Liberty Indoor tennis Center. Both matches will be streamed on Playsight.
The Flames are coming off a 1-1 trip to the ITA Kickoff Weekend including a 4-0 loss to No. 17 Michigan State and a momentous 4-1 victory over Pacific. Princeton also participated in the marquee event with a 1-1 record with a 4-0 triumph over Denver and a 4-0 loss to No. 3 Ohio State.
Liberty's Ernst Gouws and Carl Roothman were honored as the Conference USA Doubles Team of the Week on Tuesday. The pairing topped Michigan State's No. 107 duo of Matthew Forbes and Max Sheldon 6-4 and went unfinished 5-5 against Pacific. The South African duo own a 4-0 record this year playing alongside one another.
The Flames seek its first-ever victory over Princeton in its third meeting with the Tigers. The two last met in 2024 with the Tigers pouncing for a 6-1 triumph at home. Liberty looks for a second straight triumph over JMU after downing the Dukes 6-1 at home last season.
