Flames Top Pacific 4-1, Earn First-Ever Victory at ITA Kickoff Weekend

FORT WORTH, Texas. – In its fourth run at the premier ITA Kickoff Weekend, Liberty men's tennis picks up its first-ever triumph at the event with a 4-1 win over Pacific (2-2). The Flames (2-1) jumped ahead with a doubles round victory and secured singles points on courts two, one and five.

Liberty's No. 23 doubles pair of Joaquim Almeida and Siwanat Auytayakul came out firing with a 6-2 triumph to lead to the doubles point. Carl Roothman earned his first singles win as a Flame with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 singles match. Despite a second set comeback scare after Rodrigo Santiago Arraez held a 5-2 lead, the Liberty sophomore clinched the match victory with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph on court four.

The Flames opened the weekend with a 4-0 loss to No. 17 Michigan State (3-0) on Saturday. In its eighth overall match in the past five years, Liberty secured its first match win at the ITA Kickoff Weekend.
