LYNCHBURG, Va. – Liberty's Isaiah Idore and Allie Zealand earned CUSA weekly awards on Tuesday after both claimed the No. 2 spot in program history in their respective events at the Virginia Tech Invitational. Idore was named CUSA Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Zealand was honored as Women's Freshman of the Week.
Competing in his first-ever indoor meet in a Liberty uniform, Idore made an incredible first impression. The redshirt sophomore from Amherst, Va., won the men's 60 hurdles title in a personal-best time of 7.90 which ranks No. 2 all-time for the Flames. That effort ranks No. 4 in CUSA and No. 55 nationally this season.
Zealand nearly earned a first-place finish of her own on Friday in Blacksburg, but the Forest, Va., native was edged by Liberty assistant Calli Doan by 0.19 seconds at the women's 1,000 finish line. Zealand's 2:45.63 clocking set a Liberty freshman record and just missed Kate Goodyear's program record by 0.02 seconds. The time ranks No. 14 nationally this season, including No. 2 among freshmen.
This marks Zealand's first CUSA honor on the track following a 2024 cross country season which saw her earn three CUSA Freshman of the Week awards and a pair of CUSA Athlete of the Week accolades. Zealand is the second consecutive Liberty women's distance runner to claim this award, following Rachel Hill's recognition on Jan. 14.
The Flames will host the fifth annual Brant Tolsma Invitational this week, with events scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Brant Tolsma Indoor Track at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex.
