
Liberty Swimming & Diving Earns CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Award

The Liberty swimming & diving team earned a 3.77 team GPA this spring. Liberty was among teams on the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Team list for the spring 2024 semester. Additionally, six Lady Flames have been named CSCAA Individual Scholar All-Americans.
Every ASUN program earned Scholar All-American Team awards this spring. In the pool, Liberty has won six straight conference championships (2019-24).
Freshman Kamryn Cannings was named a first team CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American. While senior Genna Joyce, junior Grace Isaacs, sophomore Mary Herndon and freshmen Shannon Icard and Caroline Stamps were all named to the second team. Cannings is the first Lady Flame since Payton Keiner in 2021 to be named a CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American first-team honoree. Liberty's group of six CSCAA Scholar All-Americans ties the 2019 team for the most in a single year in program history.
The Individual Scholar All-America award is given to college swimmers and divers who have earned a 3.5 cumulative GPA or higher and have qualified for and competed at the national championship. Second team recognition is given to college swimmers and divers with a 3.5 GPA or higher who attained a "B" standard or Zone Diving score but were not invited to the national championship.
The CSCAA announced its Scholar All-America Team awards, which were received by 714 programs, spanning NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA. In order to qualify for the award, a team must have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the previous semester.
As a team, the Lady Flames earned a cumulative team GPA of 3.77 in the spring of 2024. That tied for the 11th best GPA among all NCAA Division I women's swimming & diving programs this spring. During the fall of 2018, Liberty's program-record 3.79 GPA led all collegiate teams, men's or women's.
Liberty has now earned CSCAA academic honors as a team a total of 25 semesters, dating back to the fall 2011 semester. Additionally, the Lady Flames have earned 52 CSCAA Individual Scholar All-American honors in program history.
A native of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, Cannings holds a 3.8 GPA as an interdisciplinary studies major. Cannings had a standout freshman campaign, being named the Most Outstanding Freshman Swimmer at the ASUN Championships. She won both the 100 (51.26) and 200 (1:56.12) fly in meet-record, NCAA B cut time at the conference meet. The freshman holds ASUN records in the 100 fly (51.26) and 200 fly (1:56.12). In addition to those two events, her 48.72 is the fastest 100 free time in program history. Cannings competed in the 2024 NCAA Division I Women's Swimming & Diving Championships, finishing 19th in the 100 fly. After the season, she finished in a tie for seventh in the 100 fly at the Canadian Olympic Trials.
Herndon, a nursing major from Lugoff, S.C., obtained a 3.52 GPA during the 2023-24 academic year. She was named ASUN Women's Diver of the Week twice (Oct. 3, Nov. 21). The sophomore won the one-meter diving title at the TYR '85 Invite, scoring a collegiate-best 279.10 to punch her ticket to the NCAA Zone Championships. Herndon earned her first conference podium finish, winning one-meter diving at the ASUN Championships. She placed a team-best 28th on one-meter at NCAA Zone Championships. Entering her junior season, she is ranked second in program history one three-meter (309.75) and fourth on one-meter (279.10).
Hailing from Quitman, Ga., Icard has registered a 4.0 GPA as a sport information major after one year of study. She claimed her first career ASUN medal, taking third place in the A Final on three-meter at conference meet with 269.40 points. Her program-record 261.00 on platform, which she scored at ASUN Championships, earned her spot at the NCAA Zone Championships. Icard then turned in a 19th-place finish on platform at Zones. Following one season, Icard is Liberty's program record holder in platform diving (261.00), ranking eighth in program history in three-meter diving.
Charleston, S.C., native Grace Isaacs holds a 3.58 GPA as an aeronautics: commercial/corporate major. Named the ASUN Swimmer of the Week on Jan. 23, Isaacs was also voted to the ASUN All-Academic Team. She earned her third straight conference podium finish in the 400 IM, finishing as runner-up in lifetime-best, NCAA B cut time of 4:15.82. Isaacs placed fourth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 1650 free at the ASUN Championships. Entering her senior year, Isaacs ranks third in program history in the 400 IM (4:15.82), seventh in 200 IM (2:01.72), ninth in both 200 fly (2:03.69) and 1000 freestyle (10:19.56) and 10th in the 1650 freestyle (17:12.39).
Joyce, a native of Raleigh, N.C., completed her undergraduate degree with a 3.73 GPA as a public health major. A three-year standout for the Lady Flames after transferring from Pitt, Joyce finished her time at Liberty with five career conference podium finishes. She earned a conference runner-up finish in the 200 breaststroke, swimming an NCAA B cut 2:13.77 to place second at the ASUN Championships. Joyce finished on the podium for the third straight year in the 400 IM, finishing third in 4:19.48. At present, Joyce ranks second in program history in 200 breaststroke (2:12.66), seventh in 100 breaststroke (1:02.06) and fifth in the 400 IM (4:19.48).
Hailing from Oconee County, Ga., Stamps achieved a 3.9 GPA as an economics major during her first year at Liberty. She was named ASUN Diver of the Week on Oct. 17. Stamps earned the first conference medal of her career, finishing as the runner-up on three-meter at the ASUN Championship with 270.95 points. The freshman punched her ticket to NCAA Zone Championships with a 269.25 one-meter score at UNC Asheville. Stamps enters her sophomore season ranked sixth in program history on one-meter (269.25) and ninth on three-meter (271.35).
