Liberty seniors Megan Fortner and Mary Claire Wilson along with junior Rachel Roupe and redshirt sophomore Tyler Oubre, have all been named to the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Softball Team®, as announced today by the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
To earn inclusion on the team, a student-athlete must have played in at least 90 percent of their team's games (pitchers need 17 appearances or 25 innings pitched) and have at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average.
As a result of their inclusion on the academic all-district team, they will now appear on the ballot for the 2024 College Sports Communicators Academic All-America Softball Team®. The first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 18.
Liberty has now received 19 CSC Academic All-District® honors in program history. Megan Robinson was the Academic All-America® recipient in program history, being named to the first team in 2015 and earning third-team honors in 2014. Caroline Hudson was named Academic All-America® third team last year.
Wilson and Roupe both receive their second Academic All-District honor, joining Sonja Keith (1997-98) and Megan Robinson (2014-15) as the only two-time honorees in program history.
Oubre (Accounting and Data Analysis) holds a 3.9 GPA, while Wilson obtained a 3.84 GPA as an exercise science major. Roupe (public health) boasts a 3.81 GPA, while Fortner has earned a 3.72 GPA while pursuing a Master's degree in sport management.
A native of Destrehan, La., Oubre provided strong pitching depth during her first season since transferring from Louisiana. She posted a 2-2 record, one save and a 3.73 ERA, spanning 12 appearances and 35 2/3 innings pitched. Oubre earned her first career pitching win on Feb. 24, tossing a three-hit shutout in a victory over NEC champion Saint Francis. The right-hander also picked up a victory on April 23 at Longwood.
Fortner, a native of Cedar Hill, Mo., was a standout at first base during her two seasons as a Lady Flame after transferring from Jacksonville State. A two-time all-conference selection, Fortner recorded double-digit homers each of the last two seasons. This year, Fortner batted .238 with nine doubles, 11 home runs and 30 RBI. She hit several clutch home runs late in games this season, with eight of her 11 homers coming in the fifth inning or later. Fortner scored the game-winning run in the 2024 Conference USA Championship title game.
Sharpsburg, Md., native Rachel Roupe is a three-time all-conference selection, earning first team honors each of the last two years. Roupe was named to the NFCA All-Mideast Region second team earlier this month. She had an outstanding junior campaign, batting .362 while leading the CUSA in doubles (17), on base percentage (.509), and OPS (1.273). The junior posted 14 multiple-hit games, including eight three-hit contests. Roupe recorded five two-homer games, which is one shy of the single-season program record for multiple-homer contests.
Wilson, a native of Vestavia Hills, Ala., made a major impact in both center field and at the plate this season. She had a sensational conference tournament performance, batting .400 with two doubles and four runs scored, being named to the Conference USA All-Tournament Team. Wilson also made a tremendous double play in the late inning of the Conference USA Softball Championship title game. For the season, Wilson hit .275 with 10 doubles, two triples (tied for team lead), two homers, 15 RBI, 40 runs scored and nine stolen bases.
The Lady Flames (38-25) won both the Conference USA regular-season and tournament titles, becoming the first team since 2015 (WKU) to win the CUSA championship in its first year in the league. Liberty earned a program-record six victories over Top 25 opponents, including wins over No. 10 LSU and No. 11 Georgia. The Lady Flames made their fourth straight NCAA Tournament appearance, qualifying for the Regional final for the second year in a row and fourth time in the last six years.
