
Liberty Slides Past New Mexico State 4-0 to Open CUSA Championship

MIAMI, Fla. – The Lady Flames tennis team got off to a quick start in the Conference USA Women's Tennis Championship, blazing past New Mexico State 4-0. Friday's match. The CUSA Championship is hosted by FIU in Miami, Fla. at the FIU Tennis courts.
Liberty (16-5) tops New Mexico State (5-14) for the second consecutive match. The Lady Flames secure a victory in their first appearance in the CUSA Women's Tennis Championship. Liberty is in its debut season in CUSA.
The Lady Flames dropped a combined two games in the doubles matches that led to the clinch. Liberty secured the comfortable victory with swift victories on courts four, one and six.
Liberty extends its winning streak to nine consecutive matches. Liberty's last defeat was on April 13 in a neutral site loss to Wichita State (4-2).

- Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Tiffany Nguyen (9-4) dominated on court one, sweeping Dora Kurdi and Anna Pinaieva 6-0. The Liberty pair extends its winning streak to nine consecutive matches.
- Liberty secured the doubles point in the No. 2 doubles match. Daniella O'Neill and Maria Turchetto (1-0) cruised by Veleriia Ivanovskaia and Natsuki Nishimura 6-2. The Lady Flames duo secured their first victory together.
- Esther Lovato and Marina Davtyan (6-0) led 5-2 on court three over Whitney Moon and Lisa Zhu 5-2 when the match went unfinished.
Singles
- Liberty grabbed the first singles point in a commanding triumph on court four. Davtyan (11-3) blazed past Kurdi 6-0, 6-0. The senior picked up her seventh consecutive singles triumph.
- The Lady Flames earned a controlling 3-0 lead with a triumph in the No. 1 singles match. Parra Romero (10-3) topped Pinaieva 6-2, 6-1, securing her fifth straight singles victory.
- Liberty secured the match-winning fourth point on court six. Turchetto (11-7) avenged her loss in her most recent match against Moon with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph. The freshman fell to the Aggie 6-1, 6-4 last Saturday.
- New Mexico State secured the first set on courts two and three.
