LAS CRUSES, N.M. - The Liberty women's tennis team wrapped up the 2024 spring season extending its winning streak to eight matches with a road 4-1 victory over New Mexico State. Liberty picks up its second conference victory in as many days, besting UTEP 4-0 on Friday. The match was played at the NM State Tennis Center.
The Lady Flames (15-5, 5-0 CUSA) finish the spring regular season with a 15-5 record and a 5-0 mark in Conference USA action with the triumph over the Aggies (5-13, 2-3 CUSA).
The day began with a swift doubles round with Liberty grabbing a pair of quick victories on courts one and three. The Aggies evened the score in the No. 6 singles match before the Lady rattled off three consecutive triumphs on courts four, one and five for the 4-1 match victory.
Liberty finishes a season with an unblemished record in conference USA for just the second time in program history also completing the task in 2021 (18-7, 6-0 ASUN).
The Lady Flames are in their debut season in Conference USA. Liberty collected a 15-7 (6-1) record in its last conference debut season when it joined the Atlantic Sun conference in 2021.
Liberty extended its winning streak to eight matches on Saturday afternoon. The Lady Flames last loss came on March 13 in a neutral site (Palm Springs, Calif.), 4-2 loss to Wichita State. The stretch is the longest of consecutive wins since 2019 when Liberty also held an eight-match win streak. 2019's winning streak consisted of a 6-0 record in the ASUN.
Thoughts from Head Coach Jeff Maren
"New Mexico State came at us with a lot of energy and fight, but to our girls' credit, they responded with a lot of grit and desire to overcome obstacles. I'm very proud of how we finished this regular season. We are playing like a family who loves battling for each other!"
