
Liberty Earns 7-6 Comeback Win Over Bearkats

The Lady Flames (17-12, 7-1 Conference USA) clinched their third straight series victory. Liberty has also tied its longest winning streak of the season with six straight wins. Sam Houston falls to 11-19, 0-8 in Conference USA play.

Turning Point
- Paige Bachman entered the circle in relief of Tyler Oubre with one out and the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth. She kept Liberty's deficit at 6-5 by striking out the next two batters.
- The Lady Flames quickly filled the bases in the top of the sixth. A sacrifice fly by Brooke Roberts tied the score at 6-6. Then, KK Madrey grounded out to second, pushing the go-ahead run across.
- With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Bachman walked Julia Herzinger and hit Jordan Peno. Kaylan Yoder came on and walked Allie Saville to load the bases. Yoder then struck out Morgan Holliday to nail down the save.
- Liberty outhit Sam Houston 10-7 for the game. The Bearkats committed three errors, compared to one error for the Lady Flames. The visitors left 10 runners on base while the hosts stranded eight.
- Bachman (2-2) earned the win, pitching 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief in which she struck out three, walked one and hit one. Yoder recorded her third save, walking one and fanning one while facing two batters. Liberty starter Katie Love was changed with six runs (five earned) on four hits, with one walk and one strikeout in 2 1/3 innings. Tyler Oubre pitched two scoreless innings of relief, walking one and striking out two.
- Sam Houston's Amy Abke (4-4) drew the loss, allowing two runs on three hits, fanning one in 3 1/3 innings of relief. Bearkat starter Daryn Grams gave up five runs (four earned) on seven hits, walking four and striking out one in 3 2/3 innings.
- Liberty's Hailey Deter went 3-for-3 with a homer, sacrifice fly and four RBI, setting new career highs for hits and RBI in a single game. Mary Claire Wilson went 2-for-5 with one run scored, while Sierra Kersten batted 2-for-4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored.
- Julia Herzinger batted 3-for-3 with a walk, double, one run scored and two RBI for the Bearkats.
Beyond the Box Score
- Liberty now leads the all-time series over Sam Houston 2-1, as all three meetings have taken place at Bearkat Softball Complex. The Bearkats won the first meeting, 3-0, on March 14, 2012 in Huntsville.
- The Lady Flames have scored first in 10 straight games, a streak which started on March 8 at FIU.
- Liberty is now 5-1 in one-run games this season, including 3-0 in Conference USA games which have been decided by just one run.
- The Lady Flames also won six games in a row from Feb. 23 through March 1, this season.
- Wilson has reached base safely in each of her last 11 games. Wilson and Roupe both extended their hitting streaks to seven games.
- Yoder has tied Katie Phillips' (1996) program freshman record with three saves.
- Deter is the first Lady Flame this season outside of Rachel Roupe to have a three-hit game. She joins Roupe and Sierra Kersten as Liberty's players with four-RBI contests.
- Liberty trailed 6-3 after three innings. It was the largest deficit the Lady Flames have overcome in a victory since trailing Clemson 4-1 on April 26, 2023, a game Liberty won 5-4.
