After being nearly unhittable last week, freshman pitcher Katie Love has been the named Conference USA Pitcher of the Week.
A native of Pembroke, Va., Love is the first Lady Flame to earn CUSA Pitcher of the Week honors. Fellow freshman pitcher Kaylan Yoder was voted CUSA Freshman of the Week on Feb. 26.
Love is the first Liberty freshman since Elizabeth Engler, Feb. 13, 2017, to be named conference pitcher of the week.
The freshman allowed just one run on three hits (.068 opponents batting average) in 14 innings of work, striking out 12. She posted a 0.50 ERA. The only run she gave up during the week was a solo homer versus No. 4 Duke. She has not allowed a run in her last 13 2/3 innings pitched.
On Saturday against Jacksonville State, she pitched the first no-hitter by a Liberty freshman since Julia DiMartino in 2016. She struck out five and walked two, needing just 79 pitches to complete her first collegiate no-hitter.
During Sunday's 6-1 win over Jacksonville State, she entered in the third inning and pitched five shutout innings to earn the win. Love recorded a career-high seven strikeouts against just one walk, allowing two hits in relief.
Next up, the Lady Flames (14-12, 5-1 CUSA) host Charlotte on Wednesday at Kamphuis Field at Liberty Softball Stadium.
