CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Liberty team captain Luke Anderson recorded the Flames' first event victory of the 2024 outdoor season, Friday at the 49er Classic. He took top honors in the men's 400 hurdles, leading three Flames inside the top four during their best event showing on a rainy Friday at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center.

Anderson edged Flames newcomer Jacob Torres for the 400 hurdles win, 54.07 to 54.14. Teammate Josh Blalock finished third in the same heat and fourth overall in the event in 55.21.
Ben Shughart nearly recorded a first-place finish of his own in the men's javelin but was overtaken in round six by Calvin Fernandez. Shughart's 204-9 mark on his first attempt earned second place overall and first among collegiate entrants. Teammate Ethan Mylin, last year's ASUN champion, took sixth at 192-5.
