
Lady Flames Persevere on the Road, Top Navy 4-2

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Liberty failed to take advantage of multiple match points but ultimately topped Navy 4-2 on the road Friday at the Tose Family Tennis Center.
Liberty struggled in the doubles round, allowing Navy to take an early advantage. The Lady Flames came out firing in the singles round in response. Flexing its depth, Liberty dominated the bottom of the lineup, grabbing wins on courts three, four, five and six to seal the 4-2 victory.
The Lady Flames earn their first road victory of 2024 in their fourth opportunity. Liberty improves its record against Navy to 4-0 all-time.
Tiffany Nguyen made her first appearance in nearly a month. Nguyen fell in her doubles match slotting back into the No. 1 position with Maria Juliana Parra Romero. The senior came back to dominate her singles match, securing the first point for Liberty with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Battling an injury, Marina Davtyan held on to secure the match-winning fourth point despite losing a commanding second set lead. The senior went up 5-2 but dropped four consecutive games to trail 6-5. After a short break, Davtyan returned to force a tiebreak, persevering to take the 6-3, 7-6 (6) triumph.
Liberty saw multiple chances to win the match but were unable to capitalize on numerous opportunities between courts one, two and three. Ultimately, Davtyan was able to secure a match point to end the match.

- Liberty was unable to get its feet wet in doubles, falling victim to multiple self-inflicted unforced errors.
- The Lady Flames initially dropped the No. 2 doubles match with Marina Davtyan and Maria Turchetto (3-4) falling to Emily Tannenbaum and Olivia Fermo 6-2.
- Court three was the next to fall. Daniella O'Neill and Priscila Janikian (4-3) dropped their match to Kate Lee and Parvathi Shanker 6-3.
- Playing out the doubles point, Tiffany Nguyen and Maria Juliana Parra Romero were bested by Sia Chaudry and Samantha Johns 6-3.
Singles
- Liberty quickly responded on court four to even the match at one apiece. Nguyen (2-2) made fast work of Stella Ribaudo 6-1, 6-3. The senior was making her first appearance in nearly a month.
- The Lady Flames took the lead in the No. 6 singles match. Turchetto (4-4) ousted Lee 6-3, 6-1 to end a tough stretch of singles matches for the freshman.
- Liberty took a commanding 3-1 lead on court five as O'Neill (5-3) topped Shanker 6-4, 6-1.
- Navy tightened the deficit with a victory in the No. 2 doubles match. Esther Lovato (4-4) fell to Johns in an intense 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (3) battle.
- Davtyan (4-2) secured the match-winning fourth point in a second set tiebreaker in the No. 3 singles match. The senior rebounded from dropping a 5-2 second set lead to force a tiebreak down 6-5 and sealing the 6-3, 7-6 (6) triumph.
- With the match clinched, Parra Romero had her match go unfinished with Emily Tannenbaum at 6-4, 5-7, 0-2.
