
Liberty WSOC Features Ten on 2024 Conference USA Postseason Honors

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Liberty women's soccer team featured 10 athletes on the 2024 CUSA All-Conference teams, the conference announced Wednesday. Liberty received a league-leading four Lady Flames, forwards Halle Engle and Ivy Garner and defenders Kayla Magee and Sallie Garner, named to the CUSA All-Conference first team.
Midfielder Gabby Miranda received recognition on the second team. The All-Conference third team featured midfielder Bri Myers and goalkeeper Grace Workman.
The Lady Flames featured a conference-leading, three Lady Flames on the CUSA All-Freshman team including Avery Paulson, Haley Noblit and Isabella Wedemeyer.
Liberty led all CUSA programs with 10 total All-Conference team members. No. 1 seed FIU trailed Liberty with eight total selections and three first team honorees.
The Lady Flames finished the regular season with a league-leading +28 goal differential and an .842 winning percentage. Liberty's defense leads CUSA with a 0.63 goals-against average (GAA) and 10 shutouts. The attack ranks second in the conference with 40 goals scored.
The 2024 Lady Flames bested last season's CUSA Championship team which had eight players named to CUSA All-Conference teams. Liberty also had three selections to the All-Freshman team in 2023.
Liberty secured a share of the 2024 CUSA Regular Season Championship with a 14-1-4 mark and a 6-1-2 record in CUSA play. The Lady Flames earned the No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the CUSA Women's Soccer Championship, which begins today in Miami, Fla.
The Lady Flames are scheduled to play the winner of Wednesday's contest between No. 3 seed New Mexico State and No. 6 seed Jacksonville State. Liberty is set to play in the semifinal round on Friday at 4 p.m. All CUSA Women's Soccer Championship games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
2024 Conference USA All-Conference Awards
Halle Engle | Forward | First Team
The award is Engle's first all-conference award in CUSA and third total postseason award. She was named to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference second team and All-Freshman team in 2022. Engle was also named to the 2024 CUSA All-Academic team on Oct. 29.
The redshirt sophomore leads Liberty and ranks No. 3 in CUSA with 12 goals and 27 points (three assists) this season. Engle has received two CUSA Offensive Player of the Week awards this year (Sept. 10, Oct. 29).
The forward played a key role in Liberty's 2-1 victory over No. 21 Virginia Tech, scoring both goals in the game to secure the program's first-ever victory over a ranked opponent. The triumph subsequently led to the program's first-ever national ranking at No. 24.
The forward ranks No. 2 in the country with seven game-winning goals. She leads the nation with nine game-opening tallies. Liberty is 9-0 when Engle scores the first goal of the game. Engle has four multi-point games this season, including two contests with two scores.
Ivy Garner | Forward | First Team
The selection is Garner's second to a CUSA All-Conference first team. She was previously honored on the 2023 first team following a six-goal, four assist output. The forward also finished the year on the United Soccer Coaches All-South Region first team.
Garner, a team captain, finished second on the team with eight goals and 24 points over the regular season. The forward led CUSA with eight assists. She finished the regular season as one of 13 players in the country with at least eight goals and at least eight assists.
The junior notched at least one point in seven of nine CUSA contests including a four-game goal-scoring streak (five goals, one assist) from Oct. 3-13.
Kayla Magee | Defender | First Team
Magee receives her first CUSA postseason honor with a selection to the 2024 CUSA All-Conference first team. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native transferred to Liberty this spring after spending her first two seasons at South Carolina.
The center back leads a Liberty back-line that paces CUSA and ranks No. 17 in the country with a 0.63 GAA. Magee was chosen as the CUSA Defensive Player of the Week on Aug. 20 after the first week of the regular season.
The junior takes a majority of the Lady Flames' free kick opportunities. Magee has played a full 90-minute game in 14 of 19 contests this season.
Sallie Garner | Defender | First Team
Garner is recognized with her second CUSA postseason honor. She was named to the 2023 CUSA All-Freshman team last season. Garner was selected as the 2024 CUSA Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
The redshirt sophomore helps lead a defense that ranks among the best in the country. The outside back plays a key role in transitioning possession down the field. Garner has recorded five assists this season, adding her first career goal in a 3-1 victory over ETSU on Aug. 25.
Gabby Miranda | Midfielder | Second Team
Miranda secures her first-ever CUSA postseason award. After playing an average of 25 minutes per game in 2023, the sophomore stepped into a key role as an attacking midfielder.
The Northborough, Mass. native scored two goals including her first career tally, in Liberty's season-opening 3-1 victory at High Point. Miranda finished with four goals and two assists during the regular season. She has started in 18 of 19 contests this season, averaging 57 minutes per game.
Bri Myers | Midfielder | Third Team
The midfielder has often been heralded by head coach Lang Wedemeyer as the team's 'unsung hero'. Myers receives her first-ever CUSA postseason award after utilizing a redshirt season in 2023.
The team captain has played in all 19 games this season as a holding midfielder. The redshirt junior plays a key role in transitioning possession. Myers has played at least 70 minutes in 13 contests this season. She recorded an assist in Liberty's final regular season contest, a 4-0 triumph over Kennesaw State.
Grace Workman | Goalkeeper | Third Team
Workman receives her first-ever CUSA postseason honor after transferring to Liberty from Longwood this past spring. The redshirt sophomore leadd the conference and ranks No. 7 in the country with a 0.42 GAA. She also leads CUSA and ranks No. 14 nationally with a .862 save percentage.
Workman was selected as the CUSA Goalkeeper of the Week on Oct. 15. The goalkeeper has been involved in eight total shutouts, completing a 90-minute shutout twice this season.
Avery Paulson | Forward | Freshman Team
Paulson found an immediate role with the team, receiving 35 minutes and recording two shots in Liberty's season-opening 3-1 victory at High Point. The Roswell, Ga. native tallied her first career goal in the team's next contest, a 2-0 triumph over Old Dominion.
The freshman made her first career start in Liberty's historic 2-1 victory over No. 21 Virginia Tech and has made every subsequent start. Paulson ranks second on the Lady Flames with five assists and fourth on the team with nine points. She has appeared in all 19 games this season, tallying two goals.
Haley Noblit | Midfielder | Freshman Team
Noblit carved out an early role with Liberty, averaging nearly 30 minutes per game in the Lady Flames' midfield. The Greencastle, Pa., native has played in every contest for Liberty this season.
The freshman finished the regular season with two goals, two assists and six points. Noblit enjoyed a multi-point performance in Liberty's 6-0 triumph at George Mason with a goal and an assist.
Isabella Wedemeyer | Midfielder | Freshman Team
Wedemeyer also found an early role in Liberty's midfield, playing in 18 of the Lady Flames' 19 contests this season. The midfielder averaged 28 minutes per game over the regular season and played at least 40 minutes in four contests.
The Lynchburg native ranks fourth on the team with three goals and fifth with eight points (two assists). Wedemeyer also recorded a multi-point game with a goal and an assist in Liberty's 6-0 victory at George Mason.
