Almeida, Auytayakul Set for NCAA Doubles Championship in Texas

LYNCHBURG, Va. – After securing the doubles title in the ITA Atlantic Regional in October, Liberty's Joaquim Almeida and Siwanat Auytayakul prepare for the NCAA Doubles Championship beginning on Wednesday in Waco, Texas. The event will be streamed on ESPN+.
Almeida and Auytayakul are currently scheduled to face California's No. 25 pair of Carl Emil Overbeck and Theo Dean in the first round of the championship at Baylor's Hurd Tennis Center.
The doubles duo received an automatic bid to the NCAA Doubles Championship following a 5-0 run, securing the doubles title at the ITA Atlantic Regional on Oct. 14 at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center. In the semifinal round of the regional tournament, the Liberty pair took down Old Dominion's No. 8 pair of Codie and Connor Van Schalkwyk 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8). The two are currently 7-2 together this fall following a 2-1 record at the ITF M15 Winston-Salem on Oct. 19.
The Flames duo is the first doubles pair to appear in an NCAA Individual Championship. Sam Matheson (2016) and Nicaise Muamba (2019) each qualified for the event in singles. Both former Flames fell in the first round of the tournament.
Almeida, a senior, joined Liberty in the fall as a transfer, most recently attending VCU from 2021-23. Autyayakul joined the Flames this fall as a true freshman.
