
Liberty Defeats Tulane, 205.5-147.5

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Liberty swimming & diving team earned a 205.5-147.5 win over the visiting Tulane Green Wave in a two-day meet which wrapped up on Saturday at Liberty Natatorium.

- 400 freestyle relay – 3:27.05 (Kamryn Cannings – 51.41; Natalie Colarossi – 53.13; Sydney Stricklin – 51.38; Aly Bozzuto – 51.13)
- So. Kamryn Cannings – 100 butterfly (54.09)
- Sr. Maddie Freece – One-meter diving (6) (239.70)
- Fr. Aly Bozzuto – 50 freestyle (23.66)
- Jr. Eden Troxell – 1000 freestyle (10:18.87)
- 200 medley relay – 1:43.71 (Sydney Stricklin – 26.33; Taylor Stasny – 29.77; Kamryn Cannings – 24.42; Aly Bozzuto – 23.19)
- For the meet, Liberty won seven out of 13 individual swimming events and all four relays. Tulane claimed six individual swimming races, while the two teams took one diving event each.
- The Lady Flames won the first event of the morning, the 400 freestyle relay, in 3:27.05, defeating the Green Wave by 2.82 seconds.
- Liberty freshman Aly Bozzuto won the 50 free in 23.66. She has won all of her individual events and every relay she has been in so far.
- Eden Troxell remained unbeaten in individual events so far this season, winning the 1000 freestyle in 10:18.87. Isabelle Gomez followed in 10:21.14, giving Liberty a 1-2 showing.
- Liberty's Kamryn Cannings claimed the 100 fly in 54.09, 2.86 seconds clear of second-place Varvara Gkiouzepa of Tulane.
- Maddie Freece gave Liberty its first diving victory of the season, winning one-meter springboard with a score of 239.70.
- This weekend's meet has special significance to the program, as the Lady Flames were funds and awareness for cancer research. Over the past year, both Liberty Associate Head Coach Jessica Barnes and junior Grace Shaw were diagnosed with cancer. Both underwent treatment and are cancer free. Liberty Swimming & Diving also honored the memory of Cindy Baker, mother of former Lady Flame Hannah (Baker) Skirrow. Cindy Baker passed away due to cancer.
- Liberty is 2-0 all-time against Tulane. The Lady Flames also defeated the Green Wave 131-93 at a meet hosted by FGCU, Jan. 4, 2020.
