The only goal of the game came in the 29' minute with Garner threading a shot around a Bearkat defender. The forward's shot bounced off the far post and in for the game's only score and Garner's fifth tally of the season.
Grace Workman (8-1-2) started in goal for Liberty and faced a season-high eight shots in the shutout victory, making two saves. The redshirt sophomore played her second 90-minute game of the season and recorded her second shutout.
Liberty denied a consistent attack from the Bearkats, thwarting multiple chances in the penalty area in the second half. The Lady Flames back-line held firm and restricted clean shots around the net.
With the victory, Liberty now ranks second in the Conference USA standings with 10 points. Sam Houston drops to a tie for third with nine points.
The contest was the first of two road meetings this week. Liberty travels to Ruston, La. to take on Louisiana Tech on Sunday.
