LYNCHBURG, Va. – Former Liberty field hockey standout Bethany Dykema has been named to the U.S. Women's National Team roster for the upcoming FIH Hockey5s World Cup in Muscat, Oman.
Dykema was one of only 10 players chosen by U.S. Women's National Hockey5s Team Head Coach Rachel Dawson following the selection camp that took place in early January in Charlotte, N.C. Dykema made her Team USA debut back in early December in a two-match series against New Zealand in Charlotte, N.C. that served as preparation for the FIH Olympic Qualifier.
The Hockey5s World Cup is scheduled for this week, with the women competing from Wednesday through Saturday in Muscat, Oman.
"Hockey5s is a fast and fun game that challenges athletes to think creatively and respond dynamically to the situations presented on the field," Dawson said. "It requires constant and collective problem-solving, alertness, robustness and precision. The athletes continue to embrace the new format with a desire to discover and drive standards. I look forward to the journey ahead in Oman."
The 10 athletes selected will be making history as the first to compete at the inaugural FIH Hockey5s World Cup. The squad blends veteran players from the USWNT with emerging talent on the international scene. The roster includes:
Bethany Dykema (Newport News, Va.)
Abigail Burnett (Zionsville, Pa.)
Lora Clarke (Shaker Heights, Ohio)
Jans Croon (Manhattan Beach, Calif.)
Charlotte DeVries (Malvern, Pa.)
Linnea Gonzalez (Bel Air, Md.)
Alyssa Klebasko (Odenton, Md.)
Caroline Ramsey (Morristown, N.J.)
Kealsie Robles (Seaford, Va.)
Cassie Sumfest (Lewisburg, Pa.)
Dawson, who led the team to gold at the Hockey5s PAC in June, returns as head coach. Grant Fulton returns as assistant coach, and Caitlin Van Sickle returns as assistant coach/videographer. The staff also includes Kathy Schiller as the team manager and Caryn Lotter as athletic trainer.
The United Eagles are in Pool C with India, Namibia and Poland. Their first game will be versus Namibia on Wednesday at 3:10 a.m. Eastern. They will face India later on that day at 10:40 a.m. Eastern. Dykema and the United Eagles will wrap up pool play on Thursday with a match against Poland at 4:50 a.m. Eastern. Crossovers begin later that afternoon, and the final will take place on Saturday at 11:20 a.m. Eastern.
All matches will be streamed live on Watch.Hockey. For more information on the FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024, visit the event page.
