LYNCHBURG, Va. – For the second week in a row and the sixth time this season, Liberty guard Asia Boone has been honored as Conference USA Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week.
Boone, whose previous honors came on Dec. 4, Dec. 11, Dec. 18, Dec. 26 and Jan. 15, has won the most CUSA Freshman of the Week awards of any player since the 2019-20 season. That year, Middle Tennessee's Aislynn Hayes took home seven accolades.
No Lady Flame has captured six freshman of the week awards in a season since 2016-17, when Keyen Green garnered a program-best eight Big South Freshman of the Week nods.
A native of San Diego, Calif., Boone averaged 13.0 ppg, 5.0 rpg, a team-high 3.0 spg and 2.0 apg during the Lady Flames' 1-1 week.
On Thursday, Boone matched her career high of 18 points, grabbed a career-best nine rebounds and came away with a game-high four steals during a 70-59 loss at conference-leading FIU.
Boone then posted eight points, four assists and a pair of steals on Saturday, helping Liberty record its first-ever CUSA road win, 84-77 at Sam Houston.
Liberty (7-13, 2-3 CUSA) will be back at home on Saturday to complete its regular-season series with Jacksonville State. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. inside Liberty Arena.
