Liberty Selected as Favorite to Win Inaugural OVC Men’s Soccer Championship

The Liberty Flames men's soccer team has been picked to win the inaugural Ohio Valley Conference men's soccer championship.
The Flames received eight of the 16 first-place votes and tallied 88 points in the first-ever OVC Preseason Men's Soccer Poll to finish in the top spot. SIUE, which picked up four first-place votes, was tabbed to finish second with 86 points.
Houston Christian (HCU) garnered the other four first-place votes and was picked third with 81 points Lindenwood was picked fourth (62) and followed by UIW (53), Southern Indiana (29), Eastern Illinois (25) and Chicago State (24).
In March 2023, the OVC announced the addition of men's soccer, which is the Conference's 19th sponsored sport.
The top six teams in the conference standings will qualify for the 2023 OVC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament, which will take place Nov. 5, 8 & 11 in Edwardsville, Illinois on the campus of SIUE.
In addition to the preseason poll, Liberty forward Luke Eberle was named one of the OVC Players to Watch. The Flames' top returning scorer from last season, Eberle tied for the team lead with six goals and was second with 14 points in 2022. He was named to the 2022 ASUN All-Conference second team.
