Underwood, Dykema and Miller Invited to 2023 USAFH Senior Nexus Championship

Liberty field hockey's Reagan Underwood, Bethany Dykema and Gianna Miller have been selected to compete in USA Field Hockey's prestigious 2023 Senior Nexus Championship (NXC), presented by Osaka Hockey.
Formerly known as the Young Women's National Championship (YWNC), the six-day Senior Nexus Championship (NXC) will be held from July 11-16 at the Virginia Beach Regional Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. The event will start with a team training session on Tuesday, July 11, with games beginning on Wednesday, July 12.
The Senior NXC is held annually and features 144 elite high school, collegiate and post-collegiate athletes. During the spring and early summer, athletes trialed and trained at one of the seven USA Field Hockey High Performance Centers throughout the country for an opportunity to be selected to the Senior NXC, a step along the Olympic Development Pathway program. All athletes that were previously named to the U.S. U-18, U-21 and Development Women's National Teams were also included within the selection.
This is the third straight year Underwood has been selected to play in this event. A rising senior for Liberty, Underwood and the U.S. U-21 Squad captured the gold medal at the Junior Pan American Championships in Barbados in April. Underwood, a starter in the gold medal game, scored the only goal in regulation for Team USA and tallied the winner in the shootout, lifting the American squad to a 1-1 (4-1) shootout triumph over Argentina.
During her junior season last fall, Underwood started all 20 games as a midfielder for 2022 BIG EAST Champion Liberty (12-8, 6-1 BIG EAST). She finished the season with eight assists, eight points and one defensive save.
Dykema, who will be a fifth-year senior for the Lady Flames this upcoming fall, earns her first selection to the Senior NXC. A 2022 NFHCA All-America honoree, Dykema also earned NFHCA All-South Region first team, All-BIG EAST first team, BIG EAST All-Tournament team and VaSID All-State first team recognition last season.
A defender from Newport News, Va., Dykema ended last season with a team-best and career-high 12 assists, tied for the third most in a season in school history. Dykema finished the season ranked 18th in the country in assists per game (0.60) while tallying eight goals and 20 points in 20 games (all starts).
This is Miller's first time being selected to participate in the event. A rising sophomore, she appeared in all 20 games as a freshman during the 2022 campaign. Miller, a back from Collingswood, N.J., made one start, earning the nod in Liberty's regular season finale at No. 14 Old Dominion (Oct. 28).
