
Lady Flames Scored 14 Unanswered Runs, Down Queens 14-2

Liberty trailed Queens 2-0 entering the fifth inning before erupting for 14 unanswered runs over the final three innings, sweeping the Royals with a 14-2 victory on Saturday at The Stick Williams Dream Fields.
The Lady Flames close out the regular season with a 37-18 record, finishing second in the regular-season ASUN standings with a 19-5 conference record. Meanwhile, Queens’ inaugural season in the ASUN ends with a 20-26 record, including 10-14 ASUN play.
Turning Point
- Queens manufactured a run in the first inning and then added a solo homer by Kayla Smith in the third inning.
- However, Liberty tied it at 2-2 with a two-out, two-run single in the fifth. Fortner sparked a five-run sixth inning, leading off with a home run.
- After Liberty pushed its lead to 11-2 in the seventh, Roupe capped the scoring with a three-run homer to finish off the seven-run inning.

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit Queens 14-7 for the game, with the Royals committing three errors. Queens left six runners on base while Liberty stranded five. The Lady Flames turned their 25th double play of the season.
- Karlie Keeney (24-9) earned the win, allowing two runs on six hits, walking one and striking out five in six innings. Emily Estroff pitched the seventh inning, striking out three and allowing one hit.
- Autumn Courtney (15-10) drew the loss, allowing four runs on five hits, walking one and fanning two in 5 1/3 innings. Natalie Wescott pitched the final 1 2/3 innings.
- Rachel Roupe went 2-for-5 with a homer, five RBI and one run scored, while Caroline Hudson batted 2-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs. Megan Fortner went 1-for-4 with a home run. - Liberty now leads the all-time series with Queens 4-3, a series which was renewed for the first time since 1995.

- The Lady Flames’ 14 runs scored today tie a season high, as Liberty defeated Radford 14-6 in five innings on March 5.

- Hudson extended her hitting streak to a career-high 15 games, the longest hitting streak by a Lady Flame since former teammate Kara Canetto’s 15-game hitting streak in 2021. That is tied for the sixth-longest hitting streak in program history.
- Devyn Howard is now tied with Libi Cook (1996-99) and J’Nae Jefferson (2007-10) for 10th in program history with 113 career runs scored. Howard is also now in sole possession of third in program history with nine career sacrifice flies.
- Fortner recorded her 100th career RBI, between her time at Jacksonville State and Liberty.

The Lady Flames will serve as the No. 2 seed for the 2023 ASUN Softball Championship, held Tuesday through Saturday in DeLand, Fla. Two-time defending tournament champion Liberty will open play on Thursday at 10 a.m. against an opponent to be determined.
