Liberty sophomore Isaiah Schulties placed fourth in the men’s 800 to headline the Flames’ efforts on the second consecutive chilly, rainy day at the Duke Invitational, Saturday at Morris Williams Stadium.
Schulties posted a time of 1:52.50 for fourth place of 38 competitors in the two-lap event in his first 800 of the outdoor campaign.
Redshirt freshman teammate Brendan Pitcher was not far behind, taking sixth in 1:53.27. Pitcher led at the bell and for a portion of the final lap during his first 800 since claiming the ASUN indoor title in February.
Liberty also had a pair of runners place well in the women’s 800, as Jessica Palisca clocked 2:12.14 for 11th place of 46 and Marie Hostetler followed in 2:13.42 for the 18th position. For both Lady Flames, it marked the initial outdoor 800 race of their collegiate outdoor track careers.
With Group A of the women’s pole vault moved indoors due to the wet weather, Taylen Langin tied for 11th place at 12-5.5.
