
Central Arkansas Downs Liberty to Salvage Final Game of Series

The Central Arkansas Bears took advantage of six Liberty errors to defeat the Flames 9-3 Saturday, salvaging the final game of their ASUN series at Worthington Field at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
After closing to within one on the scoreboard in the fifth, the Bears took the lead with three runs in the sixth, benefitting from two Liberty errors. In the seventh, Central Arkansas took advantage of two more Flames errors, plating four more runs to pull away en route to the victory.
Liberty first baseman Brayden Horton, center fielder Jaylen Guy and third baseman Cam Foster had two hits apiece in the game.
Liberty won the teams' first two games of the three-game series. The Flames fall to 6-6 in the ASUN and 14-18 overall. Central Arkansas improves to 6-6 in the ASUN conference and 14-17 overall.

Turning Point
After cutting the Liberty lead to 3-2 in the fifth inning, Central Arkansas profited from two Flames errors in the sixth to take the lead. With one out in the inning and a runner on first, catcher Noah Argenta reached on a Liberty throwing error to put Bears at first and third. Shortstop Reid Bowman followed with a sacrifice bunt to plate pinch runner Trey Harris to tie the game at 3-3
The next batter, second baseman Leonard Tan, beat out an infield single and Argenta came around to score on another Flames’ throwing error for a 4-3 edge. Sturgeon followed with a sacrifice fly to give the visitors a 5-3 lead.
Later in the home half of the seventh and trailing 9-3, Liberty had runners at first and second with one out. However, Central Arkansas reliever Dillan Janak was able to battle back and retire the next two Flames to end the threat.
Beyond the Box Score
- Central Arkansas and Liberty met for the first time on the diamond this weekend, with the Flames taking the series, 2-1.
- Liberty committed a season-high six errors. The Flames’ previous high was five in a 9-7 win at Winthrop on Feb. 26.
