
Young Clocks Her 1st Sub-11:30 Steeplechase, Friday at VertKlasse Meeting

Liberty’s Kristiana Young became the 13th Lady Flame ever to run a sub-11:30 steeplechase (11:29.06), posting the Lady Flames’ top performance on the opening day of the VertKlasse Meeting, Friday at High Point’s Vert Stadium.
Competing in the afternoon’s first race, Young cut four seconds off her previous best to place seventh in the event. It was just the fourth steeplechase of her career, three of which have come at High Point.
Hope Carr (18:16.27) and Summer Bejarano (18:23.37) finished 14th and 15th, respectively, in the women’s 5K. It marked the debut track 5K effort for Bejarano, a freshman.
Samantha Troup paced the Lady Flames’ group in the women’s 1,500, coming in 53rd overall with a time of 4:58.41 which improved upon her season best by 12 seconds.

Liberty’s quartet of Christopher Burge, Elonzo Burroughs, Omari Lewis and Donald McClinton will compete in the men’s 4 x 100 relay and individual events, Saturday at the VertKlasse Meeting.
The Flames will also send a sizable contingent of athletes to the Virginia Quadrangular, slated to begin Saturday at noon at Virginia’s Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va.
