
Liberty Sweeps Norfolk State 4-0 in First Leg of Home Doubleheader

The Liberty Lady Flames swept the Norfolk State Spartans 4-0, Friday morning to open their home doubleheader. This marks Liberty's fifth straight win as they prepare for two more matches over the weekend.
Liberty's Esther Lovato got a key 6-0, 6-1 Â victory for the Lady Flames, nabbing her sixth win of the season. The junior is 16-1 overall on the year and has yet to drop a singles match on the spring season while carrying a nine-game winning streak dating back to the fall season.
The Lady Flames (6-1) improve to 5-1 all-time against the Spartans (0-3).
Liberty is set to face the Maryland Terrapins at 1 p.m. in the second leg of its doubleheader at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center. The Lady Flames are a perfect 3-0 at home so far in 2023.

How It Happened
• Liberty grabbed the doubles point with wins from the No. 2 team, Maria Juliana Parra Romero and Alexandra Almborg, and No. 1 doubles unit of Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre. Parra Romero and Almborg, teamed up for the first time, topped Laura Ruiz and Breana Cook 6-2. Nguyen and Ode Mitre bested NSU's Aleksandra Evdokimova and Amber Fuller 6-3.
• The Lady Flames raced to their first singles point and a 2-0 lead thanks to a 6-1, 6-1 win by its No. 6 player Elsa Kirch over Zada McMorris. It was Kirch's first singles win of the spring season.
• Liberty got its third point of the day from last week's ASUN Player of the Week, Lovato, who topped Fuller on court three 6-0, 6-1. Lovato's victory was the 84th of her career. She is 84-13 for a .866 winning percentage.
• The Lady Flames got the match clinching point after a powerful performance by Ode Mitre, beating Amal Gati 6-2, 6-1. Ode Mitre improves to 5-2 in singles on the season.

• Liberty will play the second leg of today's doubleheader at 1 p.m. versus the Maryland Terrapins (5-1). The match will be played at the Liberty Indoor Tennis Center.
