11/28/2023 4:04:00 PM | Women's Swimming & Diving
The Liberty swimming & diving team will be represented by six student-athletes at the 2023 ISCA Open, held Wednesday through Saturday at Liberty Natatorium.
The Lady Flames will send seniors Heather Gardner, Genna Joyce and Abbie Shaw, sophomores Kaycee Cannings and Malia Francis and freshman Kamryn Cannings to the ISCA Open.
Each day of the event will begin with prelims at 9 a.m., with A, B and C Finals taking place at 6 p.m.
This meet falls inside of the qualifying window for the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, so all American athletes at the meet will be aiming for those qualifying marks. The Cannings sisters, from Calgary, Alberta, Canada, will have the opportunity to earn qualification to the 2024 Canada Olympic Team Trials.
Heather Gardner earned a spot in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, swimming a lifetime-best 1:09.85 in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2023 TYR '85 Invite. Kamryn Cannings and Kaycee Cannings are looking to solidify spots in the 2024 Canada Olympic Team Trials.
The 2024 U.S. Olympic Team Trials will take place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind., June 15-23, 2024. The 2024 Canada Olympic Team Trials will be held in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, May 14-19.
This is the 13th season in a row in which the Lady Flames have had at least one swimmer compete at the national or international level. It is the program's sixth appearance at a national meet taking place in either November or December. Brye Ravettine placed 17th in the 50 free at the Winter Nationals, earning Liberty's first scoring performance at a USA Swimming national meet while also posting a qualifying time for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials. Last year, six Lady Flames competed in the U.S. Open.
