The Liberty swimming & diving team swept Atlantic Sun Swimming & Diving weekly honors for the second time this season.
Senior Maddie Freece was named ASUN Women's Diver of the Week, while senior Abbie Shaw was tabbed as ASUN Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Freece earns her program-record sixth conference diver of the week honor, passing former teammate Lauren Chennault (2018-22). Shaw has now been named Swimmer of the Week three times in her career, once in each of her three seasons as a Lady Flame.
Hailing from Lansdale, Pa., Freece made her first appearance of the season a memorable one, winning one-meter diving on Friday at UNC Asheville. She scored a team-best 270 points on one-meter, exceeding the standard for qualification in the 2024 NCAA Zone Diving Championships. She edged out teammate Caroline Stamps, who scored 269.25 points in the first diving event of the day. Freece tied for fourth place the second time the teams contested one-meter diving on Friday, scoring 237 points. Her efforts along with those of her diving teammates helped Liberty build a 32-6 lead after two events.
A native of Niwot, Colo., Shaw had a dominant weekend at UNC Asheville, swimming the fastest 100 backstroke (55.19) and 200 backstroke (2:00.98) by any ASUN swimmer to this point in the season. She also led off Liberty's winning 200 medley relay in a season-best 25.72. On Friday, she won the 200 backstroke by a span of 4.65 seconds, beating UNC Asheville's Alessia Conegatti, 2:00.98 to 2:05.63. Saturday opened with Shaw swimming the fastest third leg of any swimmer in the meet (57.00) as Liberty won the 400 medley relay in 3:52.31. She then won the 100 backstroke in 55.19, out-distancing teammate Malia Francis by 2.47 seconds.
Liberty will host the fifth annual TYR '85 Invite, Nov. 17-19 at Liberty Natatorium.
