
No. 14 Liberty Earns Seventh Shutout of Season, Blanking Quinnipiac 5-0

No. 14 Liberty earned its seventh shutout of the season, defeating the Quinnipiac Bobcats 5-0 on Friday at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
The Lady Flames (7-3) run their winning streak to three games and remain unbeaten in the BIG EAST at 3-0. The Bobcats slip to 4-6 on the year and 0-3 in the BIG EAST.
All seven of Liberty's wins in 2022 have been in shutout fashion. In those seven triumphs, the Lady Flames have outscored their counterparts a combined 44-0.

Liberty got on the board in the 14th minute, as Emily Dykema scored her fourth goal of the year. The junior defender redirected a Jodie Conolly penalty corner offering from the right side into the cage for a 1-0 home edge.
The Lady Flames added another goal 2:17 before halftime (27:43) mark, with Lizzie Hamlett scoring her first of two goals in the match. Midway through the third frame, Hamlett tacked on her second goal of the contest and seventh of the season on a penalty corner at the 38:26 mark for a 3-0 Liberty advantage.

• Rhodes, the reigning NFHCA Division I Offensive Player of the Week, scored her 54th career goal in the contest. The Durban, South Africa native moves into a tie for third place in program history, matching Natalie Barr (54 goals, 2012-15). Rhodes tallied three points (1 g, 1) in the contest and moved into solo second place all-time in career history for career points with 138 (54 g, 30 a).
• Liberty's seven shutouts on the season are tied for the second most in a year in program history. The school record is eight, set in 2013.
• Hamlett matched a career high with two goals, her sixth career multiple-goal game.
• Conolly tallied the fourth multiple-assist game of her Liberty career.
• Cian's goal in the fourth quarter (51:19) gives her seven on the year. The sophomore from Buenos Aires, Argentina scored six goals as a freshman in 2021.
• The Lady Flames racked up five goals, six assists and 16 points. Liberty entered the game as the nation's top team in goals per game (4.56), scoring average (4.48), assists per game (4.11), points per game (13.22), scoring margin (3.71) and shutouts per game (0.67).
• Liberty won nine penalty corners on the day and did not surrender a Quinnipiac penalty corner. The Lady Flames have not allowed a penalty corner goal in 10 games this season.
• The Lady Flames scored three of their five goals on penalty corners. Liberty has 19 penalty corner goals in 2022.
• Liberty outshot Qunnipiac 22-2 in the match, holding a 14-1 edge in shots on goals. Rhodes paced the Lady Flames attack with four shots on cage, while Cian led the squad in total shots (5).
• Goalkeeper Azul Iritxity Irigoyen recorded her fifth shutout of the season and third in BIG EAST play. The junior made one save in what was her 14th career clean sheet. Bobcats goalkeeper Cristina Torres made seven saves on the afternoon, while defender Amanda Funaro recorded two defensive saves.
• The start of Friday's contest was moved up three hours from 2 p.m. to 11 a.m. due to inclement weather from Hurricane Ian making its way into the Lynchburg area.
• Liberty improves to 5-1 all-time against Quinnipiac. The Lady Flames' last two wins over the Bobcats have been by a 5-0 score. In Liberty's five wins in the all-time series, the Lady Flames have outscored the Bobcats 29-3.
