
Vincent and Thomas Take Home Top VaSID Honors

Liberty’s Kieran Vincent and Jeff Thomas took home top honors from the 2022 VaSID All-State University Division Men’s Golf team announced earlier today.
Vincent was named the 2022 VaSID Golfer of the Year, while Thomas was selected the 2022 VaSID Coach of the Year as announced by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID).
Additionally, Vincent and Jonathan Yaun were named to the VaSID all-state teams. Vincent was a first-team selection, while Yaun garnered second-team accolades.
The duo has combined to take home the last three VaSID Golfer of the Year honors. Yaun was named the Commonwealth’s top golfer in 2020, while Vincent has been named the VaSID Golfer of the Year the last two years.
Thomas guided Liberty back to the NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship for the third season in a row where the Flames finished in 26th place. Liberty recorded top-five finishes in 9-of-13 events during the 2021-22 season.
Thomas was named the VaSID Men’s Golf Coach of the Year for the sixth time in his coaching career (also in 2011, 2013, 2018, 2019 and 2021).
Vincent finished up his six-year career with the Flames by leading the team during the 2021-22 season with a 71.36 stroke average. He also paced the team with five top-10 finishes, including a trio of top-five performances.
The native of Harare, Zimbabwe also led the Flames at the NCAA Men’s Golf National Championship, finishing the event tied for 55th place. Vincent played 23-of-36 rounds at par or better (63.9 percent) and posted six sub-70 rounds.
Vincent finished his career at Liberty as the program’s all-time leader in career stroke average (71.71). He also leaves the program as its all-time career leader in rounds played (159), career birdies (531), career rounds at par or better (85) and career counting scores rounds (140 – 140-of-159/88.1 percent).
Yaun ranked third on the team with a 72.11 season stroke average, which included a pair of top-five finishes. He played 15-of-36 rounds at par or better (41.7 percent) and posted seven sub-70 rounds of golf.
The native of Minneola, Fla., led the team in last round scoring average (70.82), which individually ranks No. 92 in the country. Yaun also helped the Flames rank No. 27 in the country in par-5 scoring by leading the Flames with a 4.64 scoring average on the par-5 holes.
