
Liberty Remains Perfect in ASUN Play With 3-1 Win, Sweeps FGCU

ASUN-leading Liberty continued its perfect start to league play, downing FGCU 3-1 on Saturday at FGCU Softball Complex to complete a three-game sweep of the Eagles.
Liberty (31-13) maintains a perfect 15-0 ASUN record with three conference series remaining. The Lady Flames are 17-1 in their last 18 games overall. Meanwhile, FGCU falls to 13-28, 6-12 in ASUN play after being swept in a conference series for the second week in a row.
Scoring Summary

Notable Numbers
- Liberty outhit FGCU 6-4 for the game. Both teams left seven runners on base. FGCU turned two double plays.
- McKenzie Wagoner (6-3) earned her second win of the weekend, allowing one run on four hits, walking three and striking out five. Emily Kirby recorded the first two outs of the seventh, walking one and striking out one before Wagoner reentered for the final out.
- FGCU’s Emily Estroff (1-4) allowed two runs on five hits with three walks in 3 1/3 inning pitched. At the plate, Estroff batted 2-for-3 with a double and scored the Eagles’ lone run. Ally Hulme allowed one run on one hit, walking two and striking out three in 3 2/3 relief innings.
- Six different Lady Flames recorded one hit each. Devyn Howard hit her seventh homer of the season, drove in one run and scored twice. Lou Allan went 1-for-3 with two RBI, while Caroline Hudson doubled.
Turning Point
- The first five Liberty batters reached to start the game, as Allan’s two-run single made it 2-0. However, Estroff wiggled out of the bases-loaded jam without further damage, getting three straight popouts. Both offenses then went silent until the seventh, when Howard hit a solo home run.
- FGCU threatened in the bottom of the inning, getting a leadoff double from Estroff and an infield single by Hope Hernadez. Kirby then entered the circle in relief of Wagoner, striking out Sam Leski. Kirby then allowed a run to score on a wild pitch before issuing a two-out walk. Wagoner came back in to get the final out and secure the 3-1 win.
