The Starting 5 – Liberty’s Top Storylines
• Liberty (27-4) will welcome former Big South Conference foe Campbell (23-7) to Liberty Arena on Wednesday for the Lady Flames' first-ever Postseason WNIT home game.
• Both teams are seeking their first-ever WNIT victory, with the winner advancing to a second-round meeting against the victor of Thursday night's Murray State at Vanderbilt clash.
• Liberty has won nine straight meetings with Campbell and 13 straight matchups with Big South opponents overall. The Lady Flames are 2-0 vs. the Big South this season and 2-0 all-time versus Big South foes at Liberty Arena.
• Mya Berkman was named ASUN Scholar-Athlete of the Year and First Team All-Conference. The Lady Flames' leading scorer and rebounder, she ranks No. 3 nationally in field goal percentage (66.8).
• Bridgette Rettstatt joined Berkman on the First Team All-Conference roster. She is the only current Lady Flame who has faced Campbell during her career. Rettstatt recorded seven points and five boards during a 60-42 home win on Jan. 20, 2018.
Notes and Anecdotes – Liberty vs. Campbell
• Former Big South Conference foes Liberty and Campbell will square off on Wednesday with the winner claiming its first-ever Postseason WNIT win. Liberty is 0-2 in the event, while the Camels are making their tournament debut.
• A win would enable Liberty to tie its program record of 28 victories, set in 1997-98 and 2007-08. Campbell's 23 wins have tied the Camels' program record. The two teams' combined 50 wins are the most among any of the 32 WNIT first-round clashes.
• Liberty ranks No. 6 nationally in scoring defense (52.0 ppg), while Campbell sits No. 9 in the same category (53.5 ppg). Neither team has scored 70 points in the head-to-head series since the Lady Flames' 71-43 triumph in the 2015 Big South semifinals.
• Liberty' Mya Berkman and Campbell's Taya Bolden each lead their respective teams in scoring and rebounding. Both post standouts were first team all-conference honorees, conference scholar-athletes of the year and CoSIDA Academic All-District honorees.
• Liberty's Nyah Stallings and Campbell's Faith Price were teammates at Ragsdale High School.
• Carey Green is 16-4 coaching against Ronny Fisher, including Fisher's time at Campbell and Presbyterian.
Welcome Back to the WNIT
• Making its third Postseason WNIT appearance, Liberty is playing at home for the first time and seeking its first victory in the event.
• Liberty previously lost at Charlotte 62-56 on March 16, 2011 and fell at Villanova 67-51 on March 17, 2016.
• This is the first time Liberty has made the Postseason WNIT field as an at-large team. The Lady Flames were the Big South's automatic qualifier in 2011 and 2016.
• Alyssa Iverson is the only Lady Flame who has played in the WNIT, representing Northern Iowa in 2019.
• Liberty has hosted three Preseason WNIT contests (one in 2008, two in 2012), going 2-1.
Liberty vs. Big South
• Liberty spent 27 seasons (1991-92 through 2017-18) as a Big South Conference member, winning 16 regular-season championships and 17 conference tournament titles.
• Liberty went 328-88 in Big South Conference play and was 56-10 in the Big South Championship. The Lady Flames have won their last 13 meetings with Big South foes, including a 5-0 record since leaving the conference. Three of those five victories have come against Hampton, which never competed in the Big South at the same time as Liberty.
• Liberty is 2-0 versus Big South opponents this season, and the Lady Flames are 2-0 against Big South foes all-time inside Liberty Arena.
