
Lady Flames Earn Pair of Singles Victories and Doubles Triumph at Jimmy Powell Invite

The Lady Flames tennis team earned two singles victories and one doubles triumph on the final day of competition at Elon’s Jimmy Powell Invitational.
Liberty’s two singles victories came from Maretha Burger and Micaela Ode Mitre. The duo was responsible for the Lady Flames’ lone doubles win on day two at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Key Stats & Notes
• Lady Flames sophomore Maretha Burger improved to 2-1 in singles on the weekend with a two-set win over Campbell’s Veronika Prospalova, 6-2, 6-3. Burger bolsters her overall fall doubles mark to 6-4.
• Ode Mitre collected her first singles victory of the weekend when she knocked off Tamsin Hart of Campbell in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). The Lima, Peru native is 7-3 in singles competition, this fall.
• Burger and Ode Mitre finished 2-0 in doubles at the event following a 6-4 decision over Sia Chaudry and Jillian Taggart of Navy. The pairing won its contest yesterday as well.
• Liberty suffered two close losses, one in doubles and one in singles. In doubles, host Elon’s tandem of Olivia Archer and Julie Ball edged Burger and Elsa Kirch in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (6).
• For a second straight day, Lady Flames sophomore Bruna Sampaio lost a closely-contested three-set singles match. Sampaio led by a set versus Campbell’s Anna Head before falling 3-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-6).
• Day two of the tournament featured two rounds of doubles and one round of singles.
• Liberty closed out the two-day event with a 2-4 doubles mark and 3-9 singles mark.

The Lady Flames will close out their fall 2022 campaign by hosting Liberty Hidden Dual #3. The two-day event will be held Nov. 12-13 at the Liberty Tennis Complex.
