
Liberty Claims One Doubles Match, One Singles Contest on Day 1 at Elon

The Liberty women’s tennis squad claimed one doubles match and one singles contest on day one of the Jimmy Powell Invitational, held Friday at Elon’s Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Lady Flames will be back in action tomorrow for day two of the invitational, with two rounds of doubles and one round of singles scheduled to take place.
Key Stats & Notes
• The Lady Flames’ one doubles win came from the pairing of Micaela Ode Mitre and Maretha Burger by a 6-3 score over Abbie Tyler and Lena Kalovcan of Campbell. Ode Mitre and Burger’s win was their first as a unit. The duo went 0-1 last fall.
• Liberty’s one singles triumph came courtesy of Burger, a straight-sets (6-2, 7-6 (1)) victor over Navy’s Jillian Taggart. Burger went 1-1 on the day and is 5-4 in singles competition so far during her sophomore campaign.
• Today’s action consisted of one round of doubles and two rounds of singles.
• Liberty finished the day with a 1-1 doubles record and 1-7 singles mark.
