Liberty Notables
- Having won five matches in a row, the Liberty Flames will travel to Nashville, Teen., for an ASUN Conference contest against the Lipscomb Bison, Saturday. The Flames have never beaten the Bisons in five meetings. All five have come as conference opponents.
- Liberty’s current five-game winning streak is its longest win streak since winning six consecutive matches in 2011. During the streak, Liberty has outscored its opponents, 10-3.
- The Flames enter Saturday’s contest off a 1-0 2 OT victory at Wake Forest. Michael Huss scored his second goal of the season during the 104th minute to give the Flames the victory.
- For the first time since joining the ASUN Conference in 2018, the Flames have started ASUN play with a 2-0 record. The Flames opened conference action with a 2-1 win at Stetson on Sept. 18 and defeated FGCU at home last Saturday.
- In their win at Wake Forest on Tuesday, Liberty recorded its second shutout of the season. The contest was also their second overtime contest of the fall and have a 1-1 mark in extra time.
- Six of Liberty’s first eight games have been road matches, this fall. The Flames’ win at Wake Forest on Tuesday evened their road record at 3-3.
- Forward Noah Holmes leads the Flames with four goals and nine points. Freshman Michael Catanzarite in points with six points. The forward has scored two goals and has recorded two assists.
- Midfielders Seth Clark and Gora Gora lead the Flames with three assists each. Catanzarite has two assists for Liberty.
- All three goalkeepers on Liberty’s roster made at least one start so far this season. The Flames have posted a 1.08 team goals-against average through the first eight games of the fall. Freshman Blake Franzen has started the last three games for Liberty and has a 0.86 goals-against average. On Tuesday, he played the first half, before sophomore Danny Cordero took over and manned the Liberty goal during the rest of the contest. Cordero has seen action in four games, three of them starts. He has posted a 1.57 goals-against average.
- After scoring three goals during the week, Noah Holmes was named the ASUN Player of the Week for Sept. 14. Holmes netted his first goal of the season in a 2-1 loss at George Washington on Sept. 7, before posting the first multi-goal game of his career with two goals in Liberty’s 3-0 victory at Radford this past Saturday.
- In the 2021 Fall ASUN Preseason Poll, the conference’s head coaches voted Liberty to tie Lipscomb for third place in the eight-team league.
