
Hosler, Bolton Goals Lift No. 12 Lady Flames to 2-0 Shutout of Tribe

Liberty's Maddie Hosler and Jill Bolton provided the scoring for No. 12 Liberty in a 2-0 home shutout victory against William & Mary, Sunday afternoon at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
Liberty improves to 5-2 on the season following its second shutout of the fall 2021 campaign and completes a 2-0 weekend. The Lady Flames defeated Georgetown 5-1, Friday afternoon in their BIG EAST opener. William & Mary drops to 0-5.

Turning Point
Liberty's second penalty corner of the opening quarter netted the hosts their first goal. On that short corner, Bolton found Hosler on the right post, who knocked the ball into an open right side of the cage with a diving effort. Hosler's first goal of the fall campaign put the Lady Flames ahead 1-0 at the 7:56 mark.
The game remained 1-0 for the next 34-plus minutes until Bolton broke into the scoring column in the 43rd minute with her team-best seventh goal of the season. The opportunity was made possible by senior Ashley Dykema-Pereira, who entered the circle and drove the right baseline before sending a pass to Bolton. Bolton sent a shot into an open cage for a 2-0 Lady Flames advantage.
Key Stats & Notes
• Liberty outshot William & Mary 23-9 in the contest and held a 14-4 edge in shots on goal. The Lady Flames started the game strong with an 8-0 edge in the opening 15 minutes. Eleven different Liberty players recorded a shot in the contest.
• Liberty won the battle for penalty corners 6-2. The Tribe made three defensive saves in the contest, and the Lady Flames made one.
• Bolton's third quarter goal was the 49th marker of her career. The senior forward from Souderton, Pa. needs one more goal to became the third player in school history with 50 or more career goals.
• Hosler's goal was the fourth of her career and first since Oct. 4, 2019 at Quinnipiac.
• Hosler, a senior, also made her second career defensive save, doing so at the 36:50 mark.
• Liberty sophomore goalkeeper Azul Iritxity Irigoyen notched her fifth career shutout this afternoon. The netminder made three saves in the match.
• Dykema-Pereira's assist was her first of the season and seventh of her career.
• Liberty is 2-1 all-time against William & Mary. This is the first time the Lady Flames have shut out the Tribe.
• Today's win was Liberty's first home triumph this fall. The Lady Flames are 1-1 on their home turf and 8-1 over the last two seasons.

Liberty will welcome No. 16 Connecticut (4-4, 1-0 BIG EAST) to town for a BIG EAST clash on Friday. Match time between the Lady Flames and Huskies is set for 3 p.m.
Liberty and UConn met twice during the spring season, splitting two games at Temple's Howarth Field. The Lady Flames' 4-0 win over the Huskies on March 14 marked their first-ever win over UConn.
