
Liberty Opens ASUN Play with 2-1 Win at Stetson

Michael Huss broke a 1-1 tie during the 74th minute, giving the Liberty Flames a 2-1 victory over the Stetson Hatters in the ASUN opener for both teams, Saturday evening at the Stetson Athletic Training Center. The victory was the third straight win for the Flames.
Huss’ game-winner was his first goal of the season. Fellow forward Noah Holmes scored his team-leading fourth goal in the first half for the Flames.
Liberty goalkeeper Richard Franzen made six saves in the contest.
The Flames moved to 1-0 in ASUN Conference play and 3-3 overall. The Hatters fall to 0-1 in conference and 1-4-2 overall.

Turning Point
Shortly after host Stetson scored on a penalty kick during the 62nd minute to knot the game 1-1, Liberty broke the tie with Huss’ goal during the 74th minute. After a pass from the midfield into the 18-yard box put forward Michael Catanzarite one-on-one with Hatters goalkeeper Owen Jack. Catanzarite sent a pass across the goalmouth to an open Huss at the left post, who ripped a shot into the top of the net for a 2-1 lead.
Key Stats & Notes
- Host Stetson outshot Liberty, 20-7 and held a 7-3 advantage on shots on goals.
- The Hatters also held an 8-5 edge in corner kicks.
- Making his second collegiate start, Liberty goalkeeper Richard Franzen made six saves. Jack recorded one for Stetson.
- For the third straight game, Catanzarite recorded a point. The freshman forward recorded an assist tonight and in the Flames’ win at Radford last week, while netting the first goal of this collegiate career in the Flames’ 2-1 win over Gardner-Webb, Tuesday evening.
- Holmes has scored four goals in four games for Liberty, this season. The forward has doubled his season career-high for goals of two, which he collected this past spring.
- For the first time since joining the ASUN in 2018, Liberty wins its ASUN Conference opener.

Liberty returns home to Osborne Stadium, next Saturday. The Flames will host the FGCU Eagles in an ASUN match. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
