
Liberty Completes Weekend Sweep, Shuts Out Old Dominion 2-0 on Sunday

Liberty earned a series sweep of Old Dominion and stayed unbeaten on the season with a 2-0 shutout on Sunday at the Liberty Field Hockey Field.
The Lady Flames continue their best start to a season, as they are 7-0 on the year and 6-0 in the BIG EAST. The Monarchs fall to 4-3 on the year and 4-2 in conference. Liberty bested ODU 4-1 on Saturday in game one of the series.
For a second straight day, the Lady Flames' offense came from the sticks of Daniella Rhodes and Jill Bolton. Rhodes scored early in the third quarter, her team-leading 11th goal of the season. Bolton punctuated the victory with her seventh goal of the season early in the fourth period.
Liberty goalkeeper Azul Iritxity Irigoyen (three saves) improved to 5-0 on the year and recorded her second shutout of the season.

Turning Point
After a scoreless first half, the Lady Flames struck 57 seconds into the third quarter to go ahead 1-0. Rhodes drew a foul in the circle, but play continued with an advantage situation. The sophomore forward sent a shot that short hopped into the right corner of the cage at 30:57, putting the hosts ahead 1-0.
Liberty's second goal of the day came early in the fourth quarter. The Lady Flames' Reagan Underwood stole the ball from ODU defender Nicole Fredericks and carried it to the edge of the circle. Underwood sent a pass over to Bolton, who blasted a forehand shot past Monarchs goalkeeper Cam MacGillivray for a 2-0 lead at 46:29. Liberty controlled the final quarter, as the Lady Flames outshot the Monarchs 7-0 and had a 4-0 advantage in penalty corners.
Key Stats & Notes
• Liberty outshot Old Dominion 15-8 on the day. The Lady Flames also held advantages in shots on goals (11-3) and penalty corners (5-1).
• With four game-winning goals on the season, Rhodes is only one shy of tying the program record of five in a season, set by Natalie Barr in 2013.
• The Lady Flames' Bolton and Rhodes each tallied four shots. ODU's Marlon de Bruijne led the visitors with four shots, but only one was on goal.
• Liberty is now 4-0 at home and has outscored its opponents 20-3 in those contests.
• This is the first time in school history that the Lady Flames have won their first six BIG EAST contests.
• Sunday's shutout was Liberty's first home shutout since a 2-0 victory over No. 25 Providence, Nov. 1, 2019.
• Liberty has now won six of 10 all-time meetings against Old Dominion. The Lady Flames are 5-3 against the Monarchs since joining the BIG EAST prior to the 2016 season.

Liberty will head to Philadelphia, Pa., for a pair of neutral site games versus eight-time defending BIG EAST champion Connecticut (3-0, 2-0 BIG EAST), next weekend. The two games will be played at Temple's Howarth Field. Saturday's contest will start at 3:30 p.m., while Sunday's match will begin at 2:30 p.m.
