Liberty Sweeps Longwood 7-0 in First Half of Doubleheader

The Liberty Lady Flames women's tennis squad picked up a 7-0 sweep against the Longwood Lancers in the first half of a doubleheader, Sunday afternoon at Crosswhite Athletic Club.
Liberty improves to 3-0 on the year for the first time since 2014. Longwood drops to 0-1 on the season.
The Lady Flames won all three doubles matches and claimed all six singles contests in straight sets.

How It Happened
• Liberty swept the doubles session for the second time this season for an early 1-0 advantage.
• The Lady Flames' No. 3 duo of Marina Davtyan and Grace Hashiguchi improved to 3-0 on the season with a 6-0 triumph versus Zoe Barton and Nina Hederich of the Lancers. Liberty's top pairing, Alexandra Almborg and Eloise Saraty, sealed the doubles point by virtue of a 6-2 decision over Maria Saez and Adelaide Thuilot.
• Liberty secured the doubles sweep on court two, as Tiffany Nguyen and Micaela Ode Mitre stayed unbeaten (3-0) with a 6-2 win against Crystal Nzewi and Emma Nurgazieva.
• In singles, the Lady Flames took a 2-0 lead after Davtyan's 6-0, 6-1 decision in the No. 3 singles match versus Nzewi. Liberty's lead grew to 3-0 following Hashiguchi's 6-0, 6-0 triumph versus Hederich at No. 5 singles.
• Esther Lovato of the Lady Flames clinched the match with a two-set win (6-2, 6-1) over Thuilot on court four. Lovato is now 3-0 on the season and 21-5 in singles as a Lady Flame.
• In the No. 2 singles match, Nguyen bested Nurgazieva 6-1, 6-3, increasing the hosts' lead to 5-0.
• One court over (No. 1 singles), Almborg wrapped up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Saez to give Liberty a six-point advantage.
• The No. 6 singles match between Ode Mitre (Liberty) and Alexandra Hincu (Longwood) went to Ode Mitre 6-3, 6-0, completing the Lady Flames' sweep.
• Liberty claimed 90 total games in the match, compared to just 20 for Longwood.
• The Lady Flames have swept the Lancers 7-0 in three straight meetings (2017, 2018 and 2021). Liberty is now 14-4 all-time against Longwood.
• Liberty has outscored opponents 19-2 in its three matches so far in 2021.
• Prior to Sunday's sweep, Liberty's last 7-0 win came on Feb. 29, 2020 at home against Mount St. Mary's.
