
Liberty Wraps Up 216-137 Win at Marshall

Liberty turned in a strong two-day performance this weekend at Frederick A. Fitch Natatorium, earning a 216-137 win over the host Marshall Thundering Herd.
Liberty moves to 2-0 on the season with the victory, while Marshall falls to 0-1 as this weekend’s meet served as its season opener.

• Liberty led 112-74 after last night’s 10-event session. During today’s nine events, the Lady Flames outscored the Herd 104-63
• The Lady Flames won seven out of nine events today, including both relays. Marshall claimed the 100 freestyle and posted a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 butterfly. For the meet, Liberty earned victory in 15 out of 19 events, including all four relays contested.
• Chloe Harris won the 1000 freestyle and 200 IM today, adding to her wins in the 400 IM and 100 butterfly last night.
• Lauren Chennault (one-meter diving) and Jamyson Robb (100 breaststroke) each earned their first individual-event win of the season today. A total of 10 different Liberty swimmers and two divers have won individual events so far this year.
• Liberty earned 1-2 finishes in the 1000 freestyle (Harris/Grace Isaacs), 100 backstroke (Abbie Shaw/Sydney Houtz) and 200 IM (Harris/Emily Gallion).
• Liberty ended the meet by winning the closest race of the session, the 200 free relay, as anchor leg Emma Hazel touched first (1:36.95) followed by Marshall’s Regan Raines (1:37.11).
Historically Speaking
• Liberty’s 3:48.56 for the 400 medley relay broke the existing pool record of 3:48.91, set by Marshall in 2021. The Lady Flames also broke the pool record in the 400 freestyle relay last night.
• Harris is the first Lady Flame to record four individual-event victories in the same meet since Prudence Rooker (50 breaststroke, 100 breaststroke, 100 IM, 200 IM) did so at the 2016 Intermountain Shootout.
• The Lady Flames have won their last 11 dual meets, a streak which started on Jan. 3, 2020.
• Liberty is 6-0 all-time against Marshall in swimming & diving, including 4-0 in Huntington, W.Va.

Liberty will host a Big Ten program for the first time in program history, hosting Penn State and East Carolina next Friday and Saturday at the Liberty Natatorium. Current Liberty head coach Jake Shellenberger was an assistant coach at Penn State for three years, while associate head coach Jessica Barnes swam for the Nittany Lions.
