- After a 9-1 non-conference win over VMI on Tuesday, Liberty returns to ASUN Conference play with a match at Bellarmine, Saturday evening. The Flames and Knights split the first-ever meetings on the soccer, this past spring. Each team won on its home field 1-0.
- The Flames enter Saturday’s contest off a nine-goal outburst against VMI, Tuesday evening at Osborne Stadium. Michael Huss and Shane Geisler each scored twice for Liberty. Freshman midfielder Gora Gora netted the first goal of his collegiate and Noah Holmes, Gabe Findley and Luke Eberle also scored in the match for the Flames.
- Liberty is 2-2 in ASUN play with three conference matches remaining. The Flames will square off with Bellarmine on Saturday, ASUN newcomer Central Arkansas next Saturday and North Florida to end the regular season on Oct. 30.
- Liberty has outscored its opponents, 22-15, on the year. The Flames are averaging 2.00 goals per game while allowing 1.4 goals per game.
- Holmes leads the Flames with five goals and 11 points. With the second multi-goal game of his career on Tuesday, fellow forward Michael Huss is second on the team with four goals and nine points.
- Midfielders Seth Clark leads the ASUN Conference in assists with five. Michael Catanzarite is second in the conference with four assists.
- Danny Cordero made the start in the Liberty goal on Tuesday night, making one save. In five games, Cordero has a 1.45 goals-against average and a .632 save percentage.
- Liberty’s nine goals in Tuesday’s win over VMI were the most goals by the Flames in a contest since defeating Southern Virginia 9-0 at Osborne Stadium on Sept. 20, 2011. The facility record for most goals in a game was an 11-0 victory over Southern Virginia on Sept. 6, 2003.
- For the second time in his career, Huss scores two goals in a contest in Tuesday night’s victory over VMI. The forward netted two goals in his first collegiate game in Liberty’s 4-0 victory over Belmont Abbey on Feb. 6, 2021. Meanwhile, it was the first time that Geisler has scored more than one goal in a contest.
- Liberty and Longwood will meet for the 27th time on Tuesday. The two teams used to be rivals in the Big South Conference. The Flames and the Lancers have not met since Liberty defeated Longwood 5-0 in Farmville, Va., in 2018.
- After scoring three goals during the week, Noah Holmes was named the ASUN Player of the Week for Sept. 14. Holmes netted his first goal of the season in a 2-1 loss at George Washington on Sept. 7, before posting the first multi-goal game of his career with two goals in Liberty’s 3-0 victory at Radford on Sept.11.
- In the 2021 Fall ASUN Preseason Poll, the conference’s head coaches voted Liberty to tie Lipscomb for third place in the eight-team league. Meanwhile, Bellarmine was picked to finished sixth in the conference.
