Darrel Jones, a 2018 Liberty graduate who is currently serving as the track & field team's graduate assistant, placed eighth in the men's triple jump final, Saturday at the 2020 USATF Indoor Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Jones posted his third top-10 finish in as many years at this meet, thanks to a 52-3.75 effort in round three. The native of Monroe, N.Y., finished up Liberty's strong weekend of triple jumping in New Mexico, following sophomore Makenzy Mizera's seventh-place showing in Friday's women's competition.
Mizera took part in the women's long jump on Saturday. The lone collegiate athlete in the competition, she reached 19-3.5 for 12th place. The effort was just 1.25 inches shy of her school-record and ASUN-leading mark of 19-4.75 from two weeks earlier.

Liberty will take next weekend off from competition in preparation for the 2020 ASUN Indoor Track & Field Championships. For the third consecutive season, the meet will take place at the Liberty Indoor Track Complex, Feb. 28 and 29. Liberty will attempt to defend the men's and women's team titles it captured during its inaugural ASUN Championship appearance last season.
